Always end up with a bushy, frizzy mass after blow drying your curls? It doesn't always have to be this way! Even if your hair is wavy, you can also benefit from using a diffuser attachment on your hair dryer to get the best, most natural looking and frizz free results. Why use a diffuser attachment? Well, just look at how it is formed: a plastic cone-shaped object that is fastened to your hair dryer nozzle, and a circular, wide end section that features finger-like prongs. These prongs come in handy when blow drying curly or wavy hair because they catch locks of hair and lift them so that the airflow is directed in and around them, giving your curls more shape even as they dry.

The diffuser has the ability to channel the hair dryer's airflow onto the surface of your hair, preventing heat damage and defining your hair's natural texture while preventing frizz. You can usually get a diffuser when you buy your hair dryer, but if not, you can also purchase one separately. There are many benefits when using a diffuser attachment, and one of the most important is that heat damage is greatly reduced thanks to the safe heat distribution it provides, letting the hot air flow through it onto your hair indirectly. Conventional hair dryers won't give you this, instead, the hot air is simply blasted over your locks, producing frizz, dryness and brittle strands. Avoid doing this to your curls and waves, use a diffuser to work with your hair's natural texture and conserve its health as well.

Using a diffuser attachment isn't difficult, though you might want to practice a few times and follow a few video tutorials to get the gist of it. For now, just take a look at these steps:

• Wash and condition your hair as usual and work in some curling product using scrunching motions to thoroughly get it into your hair. A curling serum, cream or mousse can also work if you have any of those around. All these curling products go hand-in-hand with the diffuser if you're hoping for defined, shapely curls and flowing waves.

• Next, attach the diffuser to the nozzle of the hair dryer and select a section of hair. Tilt your head to the side if necessary, or if you want more volume, flip your head upside down.

• Grab the section of hair with the diffuser's prongs and lift the hair dryer until the section of hair is held against your scalp in a curled position. Keep it there for a while as you dry the hair.

• Repeat the motion with all your hair in sections until it is all dry, then use the cool shot button to finish if you want to boost shine and set the style.
